Social Media controlled the controlled global discourse, builds community and creates a hero.

  1. At about 3:30 on June 5th. A shooter come on campus, at SPU. News teams and police were on the scene within minutes.
  2. Social media played the biggest role of aggregating content from the ground. Even the large new agencies used social media to create thousands of real time updates from every source, including the the police chief, the hospital liaison, and the Mayor.

  4. It was through social media that the hero Jon Meis was identified as the individual who pepper strayed the alleged perpetrator and subdued him. That message turned from simple recognition to an outpouring of gratitude lead by the public,
  5. Through the overwhelming support of the public, they voluntarily give over $50,000 to their wedding as a thanks.
