Products From Black-Owned Businesses for Your Work-From-Home Space6 min read
One of the many ways to support Black-owned businesses is to buy from them, and we’ve been considering how we can do a better job of this, both as a company and as individuals.
With our entire team working remotely during the pandemic and potentially long-term, improving our work-from-home environments is also top of mind — so what better place to start than home office products from Black creators?
In our search to see what’s out there, we came across a wide range of products we’re eager to try out and purchase for our team. These are the ones that made the top of the list.
East Fourteenth Coffee Beans | Red Bay Coffee
For coffee lovers, one of the biggest perks of working from home is getting to choose what goes into the coffee pot — and knowing that it’s all reserved for you.
Red Bay Coffee is one of the only Black-owned specialty coffee companies in the country and is known for both its delicious brews and its commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity. Of the various options it offers for purchase online, the East Fourteenth Tanzanian dark roast is the highest rated.
Pro tip: To make sure you never run out, set up recurring deliveries every seven, 14, 21, or 30 days.
Make Your Matcha Kit | Golde
The kit includes 40 grams of pure matcha as well as a bamboo whisk. Just add your favorite milk — and, if you have a sweet tooth like us, maple syrup or honey — and whip up an instant latte.
Chakra Soy Candle | BLK + GRN
Lighting candles is usually off limits in office buildings, but you make your own rules in your home office. And considering that candles can actually help us improve our focus and cognition and relieve stress, we consider them a workplace necessity.
We’re especially excited to try the Chakra Soy Candle from BLK + GRN, which comes in different scents and is designed to promote various mental, physical, and spiritual attributes. We also love that BLK + GRN is committed to promoting both Black artisans and high-quality, toxic-free brands.
Snake Plant | Natty Garden
Plants bring a wide range of benefits to home offices, from reducing stress and sickness rates to increasing productivity and creativity. Plus, plants are probably the easiest way to spruce up a home office space.
We want just about everything from New York-based Natty Garden’s online shop, but think that a snake plant is a good place to start because it’s relatively low-maintenance and doesn’t require a lot of sunlight (Seattle isn’t known for its sunshine).
Kaya Pot by Justina Blakeney | Jungalow
If you buy a plant for your home office, a cute pot is naturally in order as well, which brings us to Jungalow and its bold home decor. They have plenty of cute planters to choose from, but the Kaya Pot by Justina Blakeney (the company’s creator), in particular, caught our eye.
Gold and White Social Coasters | Effortless Composition
Before you check out, the site has a whole page dedicated to office accessories for you to explore.
Deluxe Slim Travel Journal Set | Be Rooted
We always have a journal on hand to jot down notes during meetings, and love the artwork on this journal set from Be Rooted. They’re slim enough to toss in a bag when we head to the office or a coffee shop to work, and the set of five makes them perfect for gifting to friends and coworkers.
Happy Illustration Notepad | GodlyGorgeous
We don’t know where we’d be without lists to keep us on top of our to-dos, which is why we love this organization pad from GodlyGorgeous. Sections for each weekday and the weekend help you keep track of what you want to get done each day — and the cute design makes it a fun addition to your desk decor.
Sahara Wall Print | MKobyArt
Everyone needs something to admire while problem-solving and brainstorming, and wall art is a good place to start.
You Are Magic Hanging | rayo & honey
A little positive affirmation never hurt anyone, and rayo & honey has all of the bases covered with a wide range of inspirational wall hangings. We fell for this “you are magic” hanging, which celebrates “never losing sight of how truly filled with magic” you are.
